Less Intense Indy Show Coming for Kids

June 24th, 2008

It’s now been reported that the new Indy show that is being performed in the Aladdin’s Oasis venue is set to have a few subtle changes. Though people seem to be loving the new show (especially smaller children who often get to participate in the show itself), Disney has decided to tone it down a little bit. They are saying that it is planned to remove several of the direct hit punches that Indy gives during the show. The reason is probably different than what you are thinking though. Audiences are loving the combat and exciting stunts, what seems to bug people is when Indy gives a direct punch to the bad guy (who happens to be a woman in this small scale show). People don’t like the fact that a woman is getting punched by a man right there in front of their kids. “There are things that can happen in a movie that just shouldn’t happen in a theme park,” says Glenn Kelman, Director of the show. What are your thoughts? Head on over to the message boards to share your opinion!

Monorail News Update: 6/24/08

June 24th, 2008

Not much has been heard about the new monorails at Disneyland lately. I think the Big D is disturbed by how long it is taking them to get the new trains up, the first of the 3 was supposed to launch as early as Memorial Day weekend this year. As of right now, the red train is still going around the track during the daytime getting adjustments and being tested. They have also finally put the blue train on the tracks, though it seems to be doing nightly test runs and adjustments. Currently at the resort you will see the red during the day with no passengers, the old purple one with passengers, and you may get lucky and spot the blue one at night. There has been no announced date for the delivery of the last remaining new monorail for the resort which will be orange in color. More as we get it…

RUMOR: Castle Walkthrough & Picture Update

June 6th, 2008

We were able to snap a few shots of some interested construction walls at the Disneyland Resort last weekend. These photos are of the back side of the castle in the corner where the entrance of the old Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough was. The rumor is that this attraction will finally re-open around the same time that the new Sleeping Beauty 2 Disk DVD gets released on October 7th, 2008. Here are the pictures we took of the walls:

On a side note, Miceage has a new picture update with similar pictures of the walls and MANY more pics from around the parks, definitely check this one out if you love the picture updates!

RUMOR: Star Tours 2 Update

May 28th, 2008

It has been confirmed (kind of) that Star Tours is going to be re-done. In an article/interview done with Hayden Landis, it is stated that his next project will be the Star Tours re-make. Don’t recognize the name? He was the Computer Graphics Supervisor for the new Indiana Jones movie. The Indy films are made by Lucasfilm (same people who did Star Wars). The article was mainly about his experience with Kingom of the Crystal Skull, but at the bottom in the last paragraph it says this:

“Next up for Landis is another nostalgia-oriented project–a redo of the Star Tours ride at Disneyland. The big question…will Captain EO make a comeback?”

For those unfamiliar with this ongoing rumor, they apparently have planned a new movie for the ride that is in 3D. You would wear glasses similar to many of the other 3D attractions in Disney Parks. Nobody is sure if they will refurb the actual vehicles or not at this point. Let’s cross our fingers because this ride needs a major update!

Ex-Jack Sparrow Speaks Out

May 27th, 2008

Ever thought it would be so much fun being a character at Disneyland? Ever wonder what it would actually be like? What about the rules and regulations that the Cast Members have to follow? Well, recently an article was published in LA Mag about this very topic. The article talks about the audition process, rules while in character, rules while OUT of character, reasons you could get fired, and much more. Here is just a small excerpt:

“What people typically get suspended or fired for is a hugely flawed point system. If you’re part-time and you build up 24 points, you can be fired. Points come from things like clocking in late—even only a minute late. That’s one-and-a-half points on your record. You call in sick the day of work? Three points.

I was driving from L.A. and traffic in the morning was awful, so I started coming in at six because I was so worried about being late. I’d arrive early, get breakfast, and then forget to clock in on time. I never heard anything about it until seven months later, on a day when I actually was late and they told me I had 23 points. At that time I was working five days a week. Now every day I had to worry about hitting that clock because I was up for being fired if I missed it.”

Check out the article for much more!
